How to Unlock
Survival encounter, not a kill. The Monster In Me trophy (survive the Helix Engine) unlocks after Mission: Death Comes to Death — the Japan act set piece that ends with Logan's claws changed forever.
Mission
How the Encounter Starts: Unmissable story encounter. This is an endurance sequence: you survive what the engine throws at you until the mission resolves.
Boss Mechanics
Survival, Not Execution
The Helix Engine is the game's mid-story gauntlet — sustained pressure, environmental threat and no health bar to empty. Treat it like the plane sequence's spiritual successor: keep moving, respect the telegraphs, and let the healing factor do its job between waves.
The Reward Outlives the Fight
What makes the encounter a milestone is what walks out of it: the Helix Claws, a wide-radius blast ability on a cooldown that becomes a core part of every later fight (and the Cut Just As Deep trophy — 100 kills with it — is your excuse to spam it forever).
Step-by-Step Strategy
Preparation
No items, no gear gates — story tuning carries the encounter. If you are underleveled in feel, the answer is rhythm, not farming: parry timings against the engine's escorts transfer directly from the Hand fights around it.
The Core Loop
- Keep relocating — standing ground against area pressure is how health melts.
- Clear escorts with parries and Tornado Spin; do not tunnel-vision the engine itself.
- Use Rage defensively if the waves stack — invulnerable takedowns reset your spacing.
- After the sequence, open the abilities list and read the Helix Claws entry — you will use it for the rest of the game.
Rewards
- The Monster In Me (trophy, automatic)
- Helix Claws ability (permanent)
